Gerd Bacher

Austrian journalist and long time general director of the national broadcasting organization .
He was born November 18, 1925 in Salzburg and died there June 27, 2015.

His career as journalist started after WWII for various print newspapers. He was elected as general director of in 1967, starting to modernize the Austrian broadcaster with a very diverse program during the 1970s&80s and concepted TV & radio formats and structure that are still in existence today. He was leading ORF for nearly 20 years with short interruptions till 1992. At the same time, he wrote regular articles in Austria's newspaper Kurier.
