Austrian Illustrator and cartoon designer
He was born March 31, 1933 in Vienna and died February 20, 2003 in Mödling, Austria. Erich Sokol is definitely Austria's most important illustrator. In 1957 he moved to Chicago to study design and soon got hired by Hugh Hefner who just started his Playboy-Magazine. Since then, Sokol was drawing all the cartoon for the world's biggest man magazine. In 1967 he moved back and became art director of the new organized [l=ORF]. He designed the "ORF-eye" logo which is the official one. He was the first who recognized the importance of a corporate identity for European TV channels. In his whole life, he received a lot of prices and still is seen as one of Austrian best artists.
