The [b]Merce Cunningham Dance Company[/b] ([b]MCDC[/b]), often stylized as "[i]Merce Cunningham And Dance Company[/i]," was an American contemporary dance troupe, formed in 1953 by [a=Merce Cunningham] (1919—2009) at Black Mountain College in western North Carolina. In 1964, the Company further expanded with the creation of the [b][a=Cunningham Dance Foundation][/b] to support its activities and ensure steady financial support. From 1971 until the dissolution in 2012, the MC&DC was based at the [url=https://discogs.com/label/2443408]Westbeth Artists Community[/url] in Manhattan's West Village in New York City. Cunningham extensively collaborated with renowned composer [b][a=John Cage][/b] (1912—1992), his close friend and roommate, on many productions, as well as [a=David Tudor] and [a=Gordon Mumma].
