American jazz musician, alto, tenor and occasional baritone saxophonist. Son of Edward Boatner.

Stitt played in Tiny Bradshaw's band and first recorded in the 40's for Billy Eckstine`s big band and Dizzy Gillespie`s big band during the bebop era.
Established on the American jazz scene in the 50's and 60`s, he was a prolific recording artist. From 1950 until his death, he made at least one recording almost each year.
