Glenn Spencer
American Country singer/songwriter as well as violinist & pianist.
Born August 16, 1900 Webb City, Missouri, USA.
Died December 19, 1970 (age 70) Simi Valley, California, USA.
Older brother of singer/songwriter Tim Spencer.
International Western Music Association 2014 Hall of Fame inductee. Wrote many songs with his brother such as "That Pioneer Mother of Mine”, as well as solo such as "Blue Bonnet Girl". Most of Glenn’s songs were composed in the 1930s for the Sons of the Pioneers to sing on movie soundtracks, radio transcriptions and commercial recordings. He wrote "Gunsmoke Trail", the theme from television’s Gunsmoke.
He charted three times in the U.S. Twice in 1950 he charted with "Roses" by Swing and Sway with Sammy Kaye and Ray Anthony and His Orchestra (#5 and #19 respectively). In 1967, he charted with "Cherokee Strip" by Bob Beckham, which hit #73 on the U.S. country chart. All of his charted songs were co-written by his brother.
