Ronald Wilson
Reggae - ska trombonist
Graduated from the Alpha Boys School with a talent for playing the trombone.
Such a talent in fact that he led a number of sessions for the King Edwards label as the Upcoming Willows - a band who were actually a good number of The Skatalites.
The fact that Ronald Wilson led the band on these sessions was probably the reason for the name change.
Notably, he also self-produced some records on his own [l=Splendid Sounds] label, and appeared for a time in The Upsetters line-up.
Played in the Lester Sterling reformed Skatalites in 1978-80 and then with the Tommy McCook led Skatalites in 1988 and 1990. Ron appears in a Skatalites concert video from the Church House Inn, formerly of Providence Rhode Island. It was recorded on September 14, 1990 and released commercially.
Ron became a music teacher in New York City Public Schools in the 1980s and taught for over 20 years.
