Bob Allen

American bandleader and singer.
Born 1914 Cincinnati, Ohio.
Died: April 24, 1989 (age of 74-5).

Allen studied voice at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He joined Hal Kemp’s Orchestra in 1933 as second male vocalist behind Skinnay Ennis. When Ennis left Kemp in 1938, Allen became the lead. Allen appeared in fashionable nightclubs throughout the United States and Europe, and on radio during the 1930's.He charted with Hal Kemp's Orchestra in 1941, providing the vocals on "It All Comes Back to Me Now", which hit #5 in the U.S.
In 1940, after Kemp's death in an automobile accident, he formed his own group, the Bob Allen Orchestra, which performed such songs as ''Whispers in the Dark'' and ''Got a Date With an Angel'' for several years at the Rosemont Ballroom in Brooklyn. Allen later sang with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra before being drafted. After his discharge in 1946, he sang with Hoagy Carmichael. In 1947, he joined the Carmen Cavallaro band, and in 1948 he was part of Ziggy Elman’s band. Carmen Cavallaro Band. He became a cabinet maker in the mid-1950's, but recorded an album of Hal Kemp songs with Keith Ingham later in his life.
