The Dells

American soul - doo-wop - funk - disco male vocal group. Formed in 1952, Harvey, Illinois (USA), their career spanned more than 4 decades. Their vocal leaders were the falsetto singer [a=Johnny Carter] and baritone singer [a=Marvin Junior]. Inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 (Performer).

Initially they were called [a=The El-Rays]. Their first hit was Oh What A Night at [l=Vee Jay Records] in 1956. Late 1950's they had some line-up exchanges with the doo-wop vocal groups [a=The Moonglows] and [a=The Flamingos]. After 2 albums at [l=Vee Jay Records] they were signed at [l=Cadet] in mid 1960's where they released a dozen albums until 1975. After [l=Cadet] they released 8 more albums at various labels like [l=Mercury], [l=ABC Records], [l=20th Century Fox Records], [l=Private I Records], [l=Veteran Records], [l=Philadelphia International Records], [l=Volt] and [l=Devine Records] up until 2002.
